8. THE DOG IN LEGHORN
Story to a poem by Britt G. Hallqvist (Sweden)
A lonely dog in Leghorn harbour waits in vain for his master’s return. Once, when the dog was out exploring, his ship sailed away. Leonardo the dog finds a new home but never forgets his master, because that is how strong a dog’s loyalty is.

The winter is so severe that even the polar bears are cold and hungry. When spring finally arrives, grandfather sets of to hunt in the fjord. There he meets a seal playing in the spring sunshine.

The gorilla and the panther are childhood friends, they both come from the same region. The panther is sad, he is missing home. The gorilla wants to help his friend in his hour of need.

Silver is worried about a canary. The sun is setting and his friend is not back. The donkey sets out to look for his friend. Luckily his instinct tells him the right way to go, or he might have lost his friend forever.

A tapir and a monkey quarrel over a wonderful stone they stumbled on walking in the jungle. They end up moping and feeling remorseful. Was such a trifle worth losing a friend for?

The tiger is complaining to Noah that there are two of every species of animal in the ark except for the tiger. Noah decides to make him a spouse which turns out not to be such an easy task. Then the birds complain that there is an extra animal wandering around their department.
14. HEDGEHOG
A story to Lennart Hellsing’s poem “Igelkotten” (Sweden)
As soon as Nils the Hedgehog wakes up from his winter sleep he rushes to the post box to hear the latest news. Nils is the only one with no tales to tell – all he has done is sleep! He decides to stay awake all of next year.
