1. THE OLD WATER RAT

Mattie, the old water rattie, has a problem. A quarrelsome wants to take over his pond. But Mattie is cunning and finds a way to save his honour and his skin.
2. THE SPARROW
Story to a poem by Arnulf Øverland (Norway)
Against his will Erasmus the ram becomes the foster mother of an orphaned sparrow. He is annoyed because he is a loner who doesn’t like company. But caring for the bird softens his heart and a grey nuisance becomes a golden songbird.
3. MEETING

Ellen misses her dog. She is feeling miserable because there is no Button any more. One day on her way back from school she meets a deer who needs help. Ellen no longer feels lonely because she now has a friend waiting for her in the woods.

A blacksmith loves and pampers his cat Minnaloushe but doesn’t allow it to go out, because he worries for its safety. Then one night the cat runs away and the blacksmith understands at last why the cat has been so unhappy.
5. BROTHER SUN, SISTER MOON

The little wolf doesn’t want to be a wolf. Everyone fears him and no one wants to play with him. He disguises himself as a wild pig and a sheep but is always found out. Brother Francis thinks that it is time for the little wolf to learn the ways of wolves and understand that everybody has their own unique place in the world.
6. THE BEAR

The caged bear is big and frightening but Serafim understands that the heart beating in its breast is as small and frightened as his own. Serafim feels sorry for the bear and wants to help it.
7. THE MAMMOTH
Story to a poem by Heinrich Hoffmann (Germany)
Walter wants a mammoth of his very own. And believe it or not, his wish comes true. But life with a giant is not easy and soon Walter is ready to send his pet back to the Ice Age. But the mammoth doesn’t want to leave his pal.
