SPIRELLO

Spirello - Concepts & songs

Series of animated music videos for children, 26 x 3 minutes

Each of the episodes in this beautiful animated series tells a story about a different animal, but what makes 'Spirello' unique is that the stories are told in specially composed songs. Devised for very young children charming lyrics using simple words to tell stories are then animated to the music. The songs can easily be adapted into other languages as there is no lip sync. Versions have already been made in English, German, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Czech and Slovak language.

The characters are animals. The designs consist of an easily recognisable head and body, but what makes them special is that the legs are spirals – hence the name 'Spirello'. The simplicity of the design isreminiscent of children's drawings and is aimed at stimulating children to draw animals themselves. The stories are relevant to a small child's experience. What happens to the animals featured might well happen to the children who watch, so if a song is about a hippo being selfish, for instance, children will equate the situation with their own experience of selfishness.
